snow globe

by Alex Berger

In a snow globe, kneeling down
That’s where I found you, staring out
Caught in Winter, set apart
With a nearly broken, frozen heart

He treated you worse than I want to say
It‘s for souls like his, I know I’m supposed to pray
But glass can’t stop the march of light
That’s pouring in as we find

This could be spring
This could be spring
While winter was raging
Something good has been blossoming
Up through the dirt
The truth works its way
To greet the sun
Should have been us all along

We cracked the snow globe and you stepped down
Into a clearing of greens and browns
And through the trees, and waking land
We took our first nervous step hand in hand

Now the sun burns off the morning fog
Each day in this place we’ve got
And our old darkness fades away
into memory
So we can say

Here is the spring
Here is the spring
While winter was raging
Something good had been blossoming
Up through the dirt
The truth worked its way
To greet the sun
Should have been us all along
