Two Shows – Two Beautiful Venues

High Barn (click to expand)

After a couple of weeks off, I’ve got 2 shows coming up this week…and both are zingers:

This Saturday (August 20th), I’m playing at the beautiful High Barn in Essex

With its medieval history, amazing acoustics and a hot grand piano, I can’t wait.

Hosted by the brilliant Richard Lobb, also playing are Tony Moore, Ilona Toteva and Tim Hain.

Tickets are available HERE

On Monday (August 22nd), I’m playing back at The Bedford in Balham.

If you’ve not been, the Bedford was recently voted Best Acoustic Venue in London…and for good reason. It’s a ‘Globe’ style theatre with a gallery, incredible sound and they webcast all their shows online. If you can’t make it down, you can watch it here from 8:30pm GMT (3:30pm EST).

Joining me on cello, guitar & vocals will be the wonderful Simon Lewis. We hope to see you at one of the shows.

My cover (sort of): Frank’s Wild Years by Tom Waits

Part of my Tom Waits series.

This video was fun to make. Can you tell?

Tom (& his wife Kathleen Brennan, among others) recently judged my song ‘Snow Globe’ as Best Story Song at the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards. I’m still recovering.

THANK YOU FOR VOTING!! Snow Globe WON the VOX POP Award!!

Thank you thank you thank you!! Holy WOW!

In addition to winning the judges’ vote back in May, Snow Globe has just won the VOX POP ‘people’s voice’ award at the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards!

Being nominated meant the world to me (and was a huge surprise), and winning the judges’ award from the likes of Tom Waits (my hero) was truly a great honour and has opened many doors.

But this award blows my mind. I didn’t have any fans prior to releasing this record last year (except for my mother & like, three guys from school) so I can’t begin to tell you how much this means.

Thank you everyone who voted, tweeted, retweeted and spread the love.

Thanks must again go to my friend, the immeasurably talented Alex Wong, who arranged and produced the album (which is beginning to feel like the gift that keeps on giving) and all the amazing players who breathed life into his stunning arrangements.

Mainly though, thank you so much for listening and supporting independent music. I literally would not be able to do this without you.

Next time I see you, I am so bear-hugging the crap out of you.

With much gratitude & love,

Alex

Please take a moment to vote for ‘Snow Globe’

I Don’t Want To Grow Up (Tom Waits Cover)

This is an 8mm video of one of my favourite Tom Waits songs (there are many).

I added a Beatles tag at the end.

I HAVE A NEW WEBSITE!

HUGE, MASSIVE THANKS to WILL KNOX. Not only is he one of my favourite singer-songwriters (his new EP ‘Lexicon’ and his last record ‘The Matador & The Acrobat’ are both on constant rotation and never cease to blow my mind), he is also the reason I now have a working, functional website that I can update myself.

All being well, we’ll be doing some touring together sometime in the next year in either the UK or US (or both) – we’ll keep you posted.

The site is not 100% finished yet (still adding the ‘store’ and doing some tinkering), but if you have any suggestions/comments, please let me know.

In the meantime, please check in for tour dates and news.

I hope to see you at a show soon!

Love,

Alex

Ronnie Scott’s: London Tap Jam

The other night I got to sing with The Michelle Drees Trio at legendary jazz venue Ronnie Scott’s.

If that wasn’t enough, I got to do this while the greatest dancer I’ve ever seen – Andrew Nemr (Mentored by Gregory Hines) – was doing his thing.

Magical.
